Reception Magic, Table Magic and Stand Up Magic
|
Close Up Magic is a wonderful form of entertainment. Any live entertainment is great to see, but to be drawn into a world of wonderment is something quite special and never forgotten.
Beyond this, magic is a tool. It can be used to encourage interaction between guests and is great as an ice breaker. It can fill a dull moment with some fun. It is great as an introduction to something else such as a guest speaker or it can simply help to make your event more memorable.
If you can't decide, please contact me and I will provide you with free advice as to how best to use Close Up Magic at your event.

Mix and Mingle Magic
This has a few different names - Mix and Mingle Magic, Reception Magic and Walk Around Magic. Basically, it is me mingling with your guests and showing them a few tricks. This is mainly used at the start of a party and is a great prelude to Table Magic.
It is important not to over face guests at this stage of an event. The last thing you want is to arrive an event and have a magician pounce on you, saying pick a bloody card. So I allow guests to settle in, get a drink and meet their friends. After a while, I invite myself over for a few minutes and show them some tricks that will get them talking, laughing and interacting with other guests.

Table Magic
This, as one would suppose, is Close Up Magic performed at the Table. I never perform magic whilst people are eating, only between courses. I don't mind doing some stuff during the coffees as it's a good chance to show off my spoon bending skills and to teach guests how to do it to.
I basically conjure in conjunction with the waitering staff, so that while they're serving one end of the room, I'm keeping the other end entertained.
I think this is the ideal arena for close up magic as it allows for some great tricks, from pushing the wine bottle through the table to making fruit appear beneath their cups. It gets everyone talking and laughing.

Now I am essentially a Close Up Magician, but most tricks that I perform lend themselves to Stand Up Magic with an audience of up to about 40 or 50 people.
I show a few tricks, crack a few jokes, and it's a great time to involve certain guests such as the host, birthday girl or whoever you choose.
It is great to kick start a party or introduce the host to make a speech or something along those line. Quite often at a party I will do some Mix and Mingle Magic, then do a 15 minute stand up set, which is great to get the host up who can thank everyone for coming and really get the party starting before I do one.

Choosing the Right Magic
If you give me a call or send me an email, I will be more than happy to give you some ideas of how magic can be used to make your event as enjoyable as it can be, without it over dominating the event.
Then if you are ringing round a few magicians, at least you'll know what type of thing your looking for. Speak soon.

So to recap :
I perform Mix and Mingle Magic which is the same as Close Up Magic, Walk Around Magic or Reception Magic. I perform Table Magic which could also be described as Parlour Magic. And I perform Stand Up Magic which could be called Stage Magic (although I don't saw women in half). You can also check out Party Magic.
